The Daily Life of India:
India was always a busy place. Around 320 B.C. a ruler named Chandragupta greatly improved India. Under his rule, their first currency was used. At one point, they used gold coins with Chandragupta II carved on it. Trade flourished, weights and forms of measurement became standard, and services such as garbage collection were provided. Under his rule, his people had to pay high taxes to the government. The people of India originally had pastoral society until they migrated to where India is today. Then, they became an agricultural society, which means that they farmed. Everyday people were in a social class called the Vaisyas. They were merchants, who sold food, clothing, and services. The lowest class was called the Shudras, who were servants for everyone else. The Indians also had a base ten number system which used numbers 0-9. People (the Guptas) could have jobs as doctors and developed ways to fix broken bones. They were also one of the first people to use decimals and algebra to solve math problems. People in India also wrote many poems and painted. Some people also made sculptures, or played music (as a musician) During India's Classical Age, there were great achievements in Indian art, math, medicine, and literature. The family life in Ancient India was like any other family life. It was really close to Greece's family life. They people in the family would do everything to take care of the house. Men wore colorful robes that were mostly bright orange. Women wore bright pink/red robes with a lot of jewelry of gold and stones. Kids also wore robes. Girls wore mostly pink robes, while boys wore mostly orange and brown robe with tan pants. The homes in Ancient India were one to two stories high, made of bricks, and had flat roofs. Each house had a drinking well and a private bathroom. All the houses were built around a courtyard. Each house had a window looking out at the courtyard. For breakfast, people in Ancient India would eat fruits, bread, rice, and barley. For lunch, they had bread with fish and different meats. For dinner, they had fish, meat, barley, and rice.
